SIU investigating after crash in Simcoe

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the role Norfolk Ontario Provincial Police played in a crash in Simcoe where two men suffered minor injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit invoked its mandate Wednesday following the collision on Old Highway 24, OPP said.

Norfolk OPP stopped to investigate a vehicle at a Norfolk Street North address in Simcoe around 12:55 a.m., police said. The vehicle left the scene, northbound on Highway 24.

It was later found after a collision on Old Highway 24.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates incidents involving police in Ontario where there is serious injury, death or an allegation of sexual assault.

Old Highway 24 is closed for the investigation between Cloet Road and Highway 24.
