Burlington Children's Festival

The City of Burlington is holding its 27th annual Children's Festival Aug. 19 at Spencer Smith Park, 1400 Lakeshore Rd., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented by the Rocca Sisters Team, the event will include live entertainment, play zones and inflatables, crafts, face painting, balloon animals and a kids' marketplace. Admission is free to the rain or shine event.

West Nile virus in Halton Hills

A batch of mosquitoes trapped in Halton Hills this week tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the ninth batch of mosquitoes in Halton to test positive for the virus this year. The other batches were in Burlington, Oakville and Milton. A map that shows the locations of standing water sites where larvicide has been applied this year is at halton.ca.

Running from Hamilton for Alzheimer's

Ultra-endurance athlete David Merpaw will leave Hamilton Aug. 14 on a long-distance run to raise money for Alzheimer's research. The swimmer and runner plans to continue to Montreal, with stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Kingston and Cornwall. He will start his run from the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton Halton, 1575 Upper Ottawa St., at 10 a.m.
