BURLINGTON — Police have closed Toronto-bound ramps of the QEW at Appleby Line in Burlington as firefighters a factory blaze.
The fire at Paletta International on South Service Road and Appleby Line is sending thick, black smoke into the air.
Burlington firefighters, Halton Regional Police and OPP are involved with the emergency response.
"We've shut the area down for traffic," Sgt. Steve Dawson of Halton Regional Police said.
Appleby between the QEW and Harvester Road has been closed due to potential ammonia fumes stemming from the fire, Halton police said.
"They were concerned there may be ammonia, but there's nothing confirmed," Dawson said.
Paletta International is a food processing and agri-services business.
Burlington Fire Department couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Dawson said he had few details about the fire, including whether there were any injuries.
