A metallic balloon that fell onto a HydroOne power station caused a power failure that affected more than 25,000 customers on Hamilton Mountain Friday.
The area affected included LimeRidge Mall, The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board headquarters, Mohawk College and St. Joseph’s Healthcare mountain campus.
The homes and and businesses without power for several hours.
At around 11 a.m. Alectra Utilities reported the outage in the area. They said it was a problem coming from HydroOne.
The outage encompassed a wide swath of the Mountain, from roughly Upper Paradise in the west to Upper Gage in the east, from the brow to south of Rymal Road.

The balloon got tangled on a piece of equipment at the Mohawk Station.

Repair crews initially planned to have power back on at noon, but later set the time for 1 p.m.
Power has been restored since then.
