Concession Streetfest cancelled for 2020 due to coronavirus concerns:Pandemic also puts Sidewalk Sounds on hold

They bring thousands of visitors to Concession Street, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, Concession Streetfest and the May and June editions of Sidewalks Sounds have been cancelled.

Concession Street Business Improvement Area executive director Cristina Geissler said the BIA board decided March 23 to cancel the events.

The 24th instalment of Streetfest was slated for June 13, while Sidewalk Sounds was set for the third Saturday of every month from May to September.

“As stewards of the street, the health and safety of our attendees, vendors, performers, volunteers and Streetfest organizers — as well as our BIA members — always comes first,” said the BIA in a statement. “We’re in the midst of a global pandemic and based on consultations with various levels of government and health care professionals, we realize that it will be impossible for a large- scale event like Streetfest to happen this year.”

The BIA says they plan to bring back Streetfest next year “better than ever before.”

Geissler said the BIA will review the situation in the coming weeks before deciding if Sidewalk Sounds will proceed for the rest of the summer.

In addition, the April Bunny Hop has been turned into an at-home colouring contest.
